Who we are and
what we do!
Boy Scout Troop 92 is a traditional boy-run troop sponsored by St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hawthorn Woods, IL. We focus our boys on outdoor activities including camping, rock climbing, biking, model rocketry, summer camp and high adventure but the list keeps growing as new Scouts with new ideas join the Troop each year! The Troop’s Patrol Leaders, elected by the boys, plan organize and run activities under the supervision of the Scoutmaster. We celebrated our 50th anniversary of being a continuous Troop Charter in October of 2005. Our Scouting program encourages self development and rank advancement. Our hope is each year a Scout or two achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouting.
Troop meetings are held every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 PM in the gym of St. Matthew Lutheran School in hawthorn Woods, IL. Enter through the lower east door towards the back of the church. Anyone is welcome to join us during our meetings. Our calendar page lists all Troop meetings, times and locations. Check it out here!
We believe Scouting should focus on outdoor experiences and
we schedule an outdoor campout or activity every month of the year. Check out our photo pages for pictures from

events! The Troop attends a week-long
summer camp during the first week in July at
We regularly send our Patrol Leaders to National Youth Leadership Training. Our adult leaders are trained in Basic and Advanced BSA skills including Youth Protection. We have an active Troop Committee of adult volunteers to help support the Troop activities within the Signal Hill District and North West Suburban Council of the National BSA. Troop 92 has consistently earned the Quality Unit Award.
New Scouts typically join the Troop in late March and are assigned to a New Scout Patrol of 3 to 8 boys. Each New Patrol is assigned a Troop Guide (an older Scout) and an Assistant Scoutmaster to give supervision to the new patrol. 12 months following their entry into the Troop they will be reassigned to other Patrols within the Troop.
Service projects we participate in benefit several of the surrounding communities. Our Scouts also participate in annual fundraisers that help the Troop be financially self-sufficient. Those include pancake breakfasts and our annual wreath sale. In addition, fundraiser sales enable Scouts to earn money toward summer camp.
We are aware of the increased competition and the growing needs of our young men and we believe Scouting complements these traits. As a result, our Scouts are generally leaders in school academics, sports, band, arts, and church programs. Our Scouts are drawn in from many area schools and come from a wide variety of religious faiths and ethnic backgrounds.
